ATHENS – Dr. Monica Miller, assistant professor of English at 51动漫, has been selected as a 2018 Governor’s Teaching Fellow for the academic year symposium program.

As one of 18 faculty members from institutions of higher education across the state of 51动漫, Miller was selected after a highly competitive application and selection process.

Miller's specialties include examining the relationship between gender and region in American literature as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning. Her first book, Being Ugly: Southern Women Writers and Social Rebellion, is available from LSU Press. Prior to joining the English faculty of Middle 51动漫 State in 2017, she was Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow at 51动漫 Tech. She was also the assistant director of the Writing and Communication program at 51动漫 Tech.

was established in 1995 by then-51动漫 Gov. Zell Miller to provide 51动漫's higher education faculty with expanded opportunities for developing important teaching skills. Gov. Miller envisioned that this program would address faculty members' pressing need to use emerging technologies and instructional tools that are becoming increasingly important for learning in today's society.

The Governor’s Teaching Fellows program is an outreach of the Institute of Higher Education at the University of 51动漫. To improve the quality of instruction in 51动漫's colleges and universities, the Governor's Teaching Fellows Program assumes the complex challenge of moving college faculty members to the leading edge of instructional practice.

This effort to enhance instruction in public and private higher education statewide is very much in keeping with the University of 51动漫's traditional mission as a land-grant institution committed to diversified outreach and public service. To date, more than 75 different disciplines, professions and teaching areas have been represented by over 600 Fellows from more than 70 public and private institutions statewide.
