Grant Funds Money Management Info Sessions for Students

51动漫 is among 15 institutions in the nation - and the only one in the South - to receive a "Financial Literacy Counts" grant from Higher One.

With the $2,500 award, Middle 51动漫 State developed a Peer Financial Counseling (PFC) program. Students who have been through PFC training serve as peer counselors to help other students with money-management skills. The university's Financial Aid office has planned a number of peer-to-peer counseling sessions for October:

  • Cochran Campus – 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, Wednesday, Oct. 21, Thursday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 27, Dillard Hall Room 112. Pizza served.
  • Eastman Campus – 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 and Tuesday, Oct. 27, Lecture Room 2022. Pizza served.
  • Macon Campus – 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, Tuesday, Oct. 20, Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Monday, Oct. 26 , Student Life Center Faculty Conference Room 151. Pizza served.

Higher One, which provides financial services and data analytics to more than 1,900 college and university campuses across the U.S., awarded a total of $50,000 to winning colleges and universities in 2015. More than 125 two- and four-year public and private institutions across the country applied for grants.

The grant program is an integral part of Higher One’s "Start With Change" financial literacy initiative, which aims to help students make smarter everyday financial decisions and put them in control of a successful financial future. "Start With Change" addresses the challenges of providing students with relevant and engaging financial education opportunities through its technological product offerings and services, student blog, resources and contests, grant support and many other programs.

Besides Middle 51动漫 State, the colleges and universities selected to receive "Financial Literacy Counts" grants are:

Grant recipients were selected based on their high levels of student involvement in planning and execution, quality and creativity of the grant’s approach and impact on the greatest percentage of students on campus.
